Public servant strike cripples South Africa

Protesters outside the Weskoppies hospital in Pretoria. The second day of the public servant strike saw hospitals around South Africa close and police were forced to fire rubber bullets in some areas. Aug 2010

Patients wait in the Tshepong TB Hospital as striking public servants pass through the centre. Some patients claim to have not received their medication this morning. Aug 2010

Unions are demanding an 8.6 percent increase with a R1000 housing allowance, while the South African government is only offering 7 percent with a R700 housing allowance. Aug 2010
