Catching Bubbles

“Bubbles” an African Penguin, plays with bubbles blown by a member of the National Zoo in Pretoria during an enrichment activity to stimulate the animals. This Saturday, 13 October 2012, marks National Penguin Awareness day. The World’s African Penguin population has dwindled from one million pairs of birds in the 1920’s to an estimated 25 000 pairs today, and is now listed as endangered on the IUCN’s Red Data List. The National Zoo has 39 African penguins and in just one year hatched and raised 17 healthy chicks. Oct 2012
